7 Cheap Bike Mirrors Under $10

7 Cheap Bike Mirrors Under $10

Safety is always the number one priority for me when I’m riding my bicycle. I make sure I’m aware of my surroundings and pay attention to any cars or other riders that may be approaching. But as important as safety is, we don’t have unlimited funds. For that reason, I wanted to look into the options for cheap bike mirrors. To make sure these are within the budget of every rider, I have here the top 7 bicycle mirrors under $10.

Remember that a mirror is no substitute for paying vigilant attention to your surroundings, using common sense, and following the rules of the road. Mirrors are just a tool to use, not a replacement for your senses.

Materials and Size

This MyLifeUNIT mirror is built with shatterproof glass mounted in a reinforced ABS plastic casing with a reflector on the backside of the mirror for extra visibility. The mirror has a wide view with minimal distortion. The mounting rod is metal and chrome plated.

The mirror is 9.3 inches wide and about 2.6 inches tall. The mounting rod extends 4.7 inches at an angle away from the mounting nut.

Mounting and Installation

Installation is pretty easy. There is a rubber piece that should fit around any handlebars. You’ll insert the mounting rod into this piece and tighten it in place with two nuts. Because of the installation method, you should be able to place this in the spot you prefer, as it is very adjustable.

Quality

Quality assurance does not seem to be a strong suit for MyLifeUNIT. While I haven’t had a faulty unit, there are plenty of reports of buyers getting cracked glass or stripped threads on the mounting rod.

Some buyers also report that the mirror comes out of adjustment, probably from vibration of riding. With appropriate installation, this shouldn’t happen to you. Just make sure the nuts are tightened, and avoid installing the mirror on a sharply curved part of the handlebar.

Style

Mirrors aren’t the most stylish bike accessory, but this one has a pretty slim profile and plain black and chrome styling. It won’t win any design awards, but it’s not going to make you look foolish either.

Price

When I checked this mirror out, it retailed for just $5.99 with free Prime shipping. This is the cheapest bike mirror I could find on Amazon.

Summary

The price is tough to beat, even for cheap bike mirrors, and the materials are very good for the price. I would expect a mirror this inexpensive to have a lot more plastic in its construction. Even with the quality control issues, as long as you take care when installing, you should be able to use this for a decent amount of time before upgrading to a more serious mirror.

Materials and Size

This Cosmos mirror comes as a pair of two. The body and mounting rod are made of plastic. The mirror is a convex glass, so there will be some distortion as is typical for this mirror style.

The mirror is about 2.8 inches wide. The rod is 5 or so inches long coming out at an angle from the handlebar mount. The mounting sleeve is only 3/4″ in diameter, so it’s unlikely to fit many common handlebar sizes.

Mounting and Installation

Easy installation. Position the mounting sleeve around your handlebars, insert the mounting rod, and tighten with a provided nut.

Quality

Not great. Because the rods are made of plastic, there is quite a bit of vibration that makes it difficult to view the mirrors on anything but the smoothest roads or slowest speeds. I’ve seen a couple of folks have the plastic rods actually break due to the vibration.

Style

These are utilitarian. They look quite cheap because of the plastic stems, but they can get the job done.

Price

When I last looked, this pair was available for $7.49 with free Prime shipping.

Summary

Not recommended. The low quality materials make these difficult to use and lead to irreparable damage to the mirrors. Probably best to avoid this one for most riders.

However, if you are a slow rider or ride on very smooth roads or trails, these issues may not be a bother to you.
